The frosty new Icarus lagger dares you to pick a fight with a Thalarctos maritimus

We learned more about Icarus this week, as the survival game from DayZ creator Dean Manor hall and New Zealand developer RocketWerkz announced a release date for its first chapter and confirmed it is no yearner independent to run.

And today happening The PC Gaming Demonstrate, a new trailer for Icarus appeared featuring a fancy new compound bow and one very angry polar bear. Check mark it unstylish above.

The trailer begins in the space station orbiting the planet Icarus, with astronauts rocketing down to the surface, crafting a base, and then visual perception it become partially destroyed by a nasty storm and a fire. Past the activity moves to the freezing alpine biome to build a sturdier base out of Isidor Feinstein Stone or else of wood.

I've played Icarus doubly with Dean Hall. The premiere time we explored the forest biome (our base didn't burn up, though Antechamber himself caught lighted). In my more recent academic session, Hall escorted me to the highland biome, which is far more desert than the wooded areas where I've spent to the highest degree my time in the natural selection game.

The alpine zone is fairly barren of trees to use for building, and it's so cold fur armor needs to be worn and chunks of ice need to be amassed and melted in a fire just to gravel ahold of some imbibing urine. It's also home to opposite bears and wolves, which I got to observe first fighting each else, then charging directly at me, just A IT's shown in the trailer. It's not surprising that Hall (who has actually had real-life survival training) says the highland biome is his favorite area in the bet on, but later that Thalarctos maritimus loped steadily toward me while I pelted IT with panic-struck arrows, I was decidedly ripe to head back to the safer timber area. I did actually survive the attack, but only just just.

And if polar bears aren't big enough for you, RocketWerkz sent over a few screenshots of a tool not shown in the dawdler. Hey, it's a bloody mammoth:

Healthy, if bows and arrows can merely just loosen up a rampaging ice bear, what will I need to take out a big? Hopefully thither's a Gatling gun somewhere in the tech tree. That and a very large barbeque. The first chapter of Icarus, named First Cohort, is out-of-pocket taboo August 11.

Christopher Livingston

Chris started acting PC games in the 1980s, started composition nigh them in the early 2000s, and (finally) started acquiring gainful to write about them in the late 2000s. Following a few old age as a regular freelancer, PC Gamer hired him in 2014, probably sol he'd stopover emailing them asking for more work. Chris has a love-detest relationship with survival games and an unhealthy fascination with the inner lives of NPCs. Helium's also a winnow of offbeat computer simulation games, mods, and ignoring storylines in RPGs thus he can pretend up his personal.
